This guide will show you how you can change domain name (URL) for your WordPress-based website. You may find it helpful when moving your WordPress installation from a subfolder or changing the main domain for your cPanel account.

There are two ways to change WordPress website URL: through admin dashboard and via the database.

To change the website URL in your WordPress admin dashboard following these steps:

  •  Log in to your WordPress admin dashboard using this guide.

  •  Update WordPress Address (URL) line and Site Address (URL) lines and save the changes, follow the images below for visual guidence:

In case you do not have access to the WordPress admin dashboard, follow these steps to change the URLs via the database.

Congratulations, if you've followed the steps above, your site's domain name should be changed now.

Be patient. The changes will take full effect within 24-48 hours (4-8 hours are usually sufficient in practice).

NOTE: If any changes were made not according to your plan, you can always do a restore backup of your website. If you've created your site using Softaculous script installer, feel free to refer to this guide
